Baseball Recap: Nelson County Find Success

Nelson County won the last time they faced William Campbell and things went their way on Wednesday too. The Governors came out on top against the Generals by a score of 13-9. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Governors.

Lekota Shaver made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over three innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off two hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and one double. He has become a key player for Nelson County: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 3-6 otherwise.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jamison Craig, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases and three runs. What's more, he posted two hits, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Hank Simpson, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

Nelson County hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their strikeout total in four consecutive matches.

Nelson County now has a winning record of 7-6. As for William Campbell, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-13.

Coming up, Nelson County will face off against Appomattox County at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. The Raiders' pitching crew has only allowed 3.4 runs per game this season, so the Governors' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for William Campbell, they will host Chatham at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. The Generals are facing the Cavaliers at the right time seeing as the Cavaliers are stuck on a nine-game losing streak.
