The Lafayette Generals will be taking part in a tournament against the Estill County Engineers at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday.
Lafayette came into this matchup off a tough 12-run defeat last Friday. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of George Rogers Clark by a score of 6-4 on Tuesday. The Generals have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Lyla Hould was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases and one RBI. Anna Clay Denton was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one run and one double.
Meanwhile, Estill County had to endure a four-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They put the hurt on Owsley County with a sharp 15-0 win on Thursday. The Engineers' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Bella Rice made a splash no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out seven over four innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in May of 2025.
In other batting news, Callee Snowden and Kenzie Howard did most of the damage at the plate: Snowden went 2-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI, while Howard went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. That's the most RBI Snowden has posted since back in April of 2025. Sydney Riddell also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Estill County was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .565. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive games.
Lafayette now has a losing record of 1-2. As for Estill County, their record is now 2-4.
Lafayette came out on top in a nail-biter against Estill County in their previous matchup back in April of 2022, sneaking past 3-1. Will the Generals repeat their success, or do the Engineers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
