Springport is a perfect 4-0 against Reading since April of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Spartans will head out on the road to face off against the Rangers at 3:45 p.m. Springport is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt wants to keep things rolling.
Springport had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the ten-run drubbing they dealt Potterville on Saturday. The Spartans put the hurt on the Vikings with a sharp 12-2 win. The result was nothing new for the Spartans, who have now won three matchups by ten runs or more so far this season.
Travis Riehle made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out nine over five innings pitched. Riehle was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
In other batting news, Hunter Miller and Marshall Shoemaker did most of the damage at the plate: Miller went 3-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double, while Shoemaker went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases and three runs. Another player making a difference was Bo Lightner, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Springport hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Potterville struck out 11 times.
Jonesville hit Reading with a six-run fourth inning on Monday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Rangers lost 14-2 to the Comets. The Rangers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Reading saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Will Elder, who went 1-for-2 with one double and one RBI.
Springport pushed their record up to 4-0 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.5 runs over those games. As for Reading, they now have a losing record of 1-2.
Springport took their victory against Reading in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 15-5 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Spartans since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
