The West Elk Patriots will head out on the road to face off against the Fredonia Yellowjackets at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Both teams come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Last Tuesday, West Elk strolled past Neodesha with points to spare, taking the game 56-40. Given West Elk's advantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 95th, while Neodesha is ranked 235th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Maddex Moreno continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 22 points along with nine rebounds and six steals. The match was his fifth in a row with at least ten points. Uriah Tillapaugh was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with seven rebounds.
Meanwhile, Fredonia scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Tuesday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Bluestem 80-47 on the road. That looming 80-47 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for Fredonia yet this season.
The victory makes it two in a row for West Elk and bumps their season record up to 4-1. As for Fredonia, they now have a winning record of 3-2.
West Elk skirted past Fredonia 62-59 in their previous matchup back in December of 2022. The rematch might be a little tougher for West Elk since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
