Aiken extended their losing streak to three on Friday, dropping them down to 2-9. They took a 12-9 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Augusta Christian Lions. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Fighting Green Hornets of the 20-4 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2024.
Kate Weimer was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-5 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. Trinity Frasier was another key player, going 2-for-5 with two runs and one stolen base.
As for Augusta Christian, they pushed their record up to 7-0 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.8 runs over those games.
On Augusta Christian's side, Avery Sheppard made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 13 batters over seven innings while giving up five earned (and four unearned) runs off 11 hits (and only one walk). With that strong performance, Sheppard is now averaging an impressive 5.9 strikeouts per game. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, two doubles, and one stolen base. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, McKenzie Krebs was a standout: she got on base in four of her five plate appearances with two RBI, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was Paiton Buehner, who went 1-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Coming up, Aiken will square off against Airport at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The Fighting Green Hornets' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Eagles have averaged an impressive 10.2 runs per game this season. As for Augusta Christian, they will head out on the road to take on Cardinal Newman at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. This will be the Lions' first chance to prove their worth in the conference.
