St. Francis is a perfect 3-0 against Petoskey since April of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Gladiators will head out on the road to challenge the Northmen at 4:00 p.m. St. Francis has given up an average of 7.2 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
St. Francis managed to slip by Elk Rapids the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Gladiators lost 11-2 to the Elks on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, Petoskey strolled into their game on Tuesday with a perfect record and they left with the same. Everything went their way against Traverse City Central as they made off with an 8-1 victory. While the Northmen didn't have the best season last year (they finished 2-15), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.
Bre VerCautren was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 13 over seven innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one run.
In other batting news, Alexis Cadarette was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs and two stolen bases. Addisynn Segraves was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Petoskey was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .406. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Petoskey's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 4-0. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.3 runs over those games. As for St. Francis, their loss dropped their record down to 3-2.
Everything went St. Francis' way against Petoskey in their previous matchup back in April of 2022, as St. Francis made off with a 19-6 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Gladiators since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
