GRACE Christian has gone 8-2 against Cary Christian recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The GRACE Christian Eagles will head out to take on the Cary Christian Knights at 7:15 p.m. GRACE Christian is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 56 points per game this season.
Last Monday, GRACE Christian was beaten by St. John's 67-36. While losing is never fun, the Eagles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 151st in North Carolina, while the Cadets are ranked fifth in District of Columbia).
Despite the defeat, GRACE Christian had strong showings from Michael Phillips II, who posted 12 points, and Eli Nelson, who scored eight points.
Meanwhile, you can't lose the game if you win every quarter, and that was precisely Cary Christian's strategy against Wake Christian Academy on Friday. Everything went Cary Christian's way against Wake Christian Academy as Cary Christian made off with a 65-39 victory. The Knights have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven contests by 20 points or more this season.
GRACE Christian better keep an eye on Andrew Neal. He was instrumental in Cary Christian's win, going 11 for 17 on his way to 31 points. The game was Neal's 11th in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Elijah Holmes, who almost dropped a double-double on 11 points and nine assists.
This is the second loss in a row for GRACE Christian and nudges their season record down to 12-15. As for Cary Christian, their win bumped their record up to 10-5.
Thursday's matchup will pit two of the most dominant guards against one another: Phillips II and Neal. Phillips II has been dynamite this season: he has averaged 21.2 points, 2 blocks, and 7.3 rebounds. For his part, Neal has averaged 27.7 points, 6.3 boards, and 3.4 assists.
GRACE Christian strolled past Cary Christian in their previous meeting back in December of 2024 by a score of 62-44. The rematch might be a little tougher for GRACE Christian since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
