The Kearns Cougars scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Friday. They took down West Jordan 73-59. The victory was all the more spectacular given Kearns' disadvantage in MaxPreps' Utah basketball rankings (they are ranked 92nd, while West Jordan is ranked 32nd).
Kearns' victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Iman Finau, who dropped a double-double on 23 points and ten rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Finau has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Adhau Chol, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 11 rebounds.
Despite the defeat, West Jordan had strong showings from Giselle Muffet, who scored 23 points along with three steals, and Rochelle Afo Manuma, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 15 rebounds. Afo Manuma is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Isabella Knight, who scored 11 points along with five steals.
Kearns is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 8-8 record this season. As for West Jordan, their defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 8-4.
Kearns will head out on the road to challenge Cyprus at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for West Jordan, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Hunter at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Hunter focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 11 on Friday.
