Cowanesque Valley is 0-9 against Athens since May of 2016 but things could change on Thursday. The Indians will challenge the Wildcats at 4:30 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Athens will be up against a hot Cowanesque Valley squad: the team just extended their winning streak to seven. The Indians blew past Sayre 16-2 on Tuesday. That's two games straight that the Indians have won by exactly 14 runs.
Dave Hess and Ayren Morgan made a big impact while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Hess pitched 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. Meanwhile, Morgan pitched 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances. At bat, Hess went 3-for-5 with three stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI, while Morgan went 3-for-5 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most hits Morgan has posted since back in May of 2025.
In other batting news, Cowanesque Valley got a massive performance out of Lucas Hamilton, who went 2-for-5 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. That home run marked the first that Hamilton has launched this season. The team also got some help courtesy of William Kies, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Cowanesque Valley kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits in three consecutive games.
Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Athens duked it out with Mansfield on Tuesday. The Wildcats put the hurt on the Tigers with a sharp 19-7 victory. The Wildcats haven't had any issues with the Tigers recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.
Kamdyn Wheeler made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. Wheeler was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with four runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
In other batting news, Duncan Thetga was a standout: he got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three runs and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Brady Flynn, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three runs and one RBI.
Cowanesque Valley's record now sits at 14-1. As for Athens, their record is now 11-2.
Thursday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Cowanesque Valley hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .329. However, it's not like Athens struggles in that department as they've averaged .357. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Cowanesque Valley might still be hurting after the 12-0 defeat they got from Athens when the teams last played back in May of 2025. Can the Indians avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
