Memphis Central has played every game this season on their home court, but they'll have to hit the road on Friday. They will face off against the Arlington Tigers at 6:00 p.m. Arlington took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Memphis Central, who comes in off a win.
Last Tuesday, Memphis Central beat Germantown 57-48. Given Memphis Central's advantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee basketball rankings (they are ranked 101st, while Germantown is ranked 229th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Meanwhile, Arlington's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Monday after their third straight loss. They fell just short of Memphis Home Education Association by a score of 39-36. That's two games in a row now that Arlington has lost by exactly three points.
Despite the defeat, Arlington saw an underclassman step up: Taylor Miller scored 11 points along with 4 steals. Miller scored a full 30.6% of Arlington's points, the second time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Bailey Brown, who scored 6 points along with 3 steals.
Memphis Central's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 3-0. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.0 points per game. As for Arlington, they have fallen quite a ways from their 21-9 record last season and are now at 1-3.
Memphis Central took a serious blow against Arlington in their previous meeting back in November of 2021, falling 76-47. Can Memphis Central avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
