The Joaquin Rams will take on the Woden Eagles at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Woden will be up against a hot Joaquin squad: the team just extended their winning streak to five. Joaquin never let Normangee get on the board and left with a 15-0 victory on Saturday. While the Rams didn't have the best season last year (they finished 6-12-1), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.
The team relied heavily on Ke'Maria Wilson, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI.
Wilson wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Joaquin kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Normangee didn't got any hits.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Woden). They were the clear victor by a 15-0 margin over Colmesneil on Friday. The high-scoring effort was just what the Eagles needed considering they were shut out in their previous contest.
Autumn Bridges and Carlie Lucas made a big impact no matter where they played. On the mound, Bridges pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Lucas pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. At the plate, Bridges scored a run while going 2-for-4, while Lucas scored three runs and stole Two bases. while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. Bridges also brought in three RBI, marking her first of the season.
In other batting news, Riley Taylor was a standout: she scored a run and stole a base while going 3-for-3. That run was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Jolette Montoya, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one double.
Joaquin's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 7-2. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.7 runs on average over those games. As for Woden, their victory bumped their record up to 3-4.
Tuesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Joaquin hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .407. However, it's not like Woden struggles in that department as they've averaged .360. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Joaquin came up short against Woden in their previous matchup back in May of 2017, falling 8-5. Will Joaquin have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other softball content.
