The Grand Island Islanders's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fourth straight loss. They took a 67-56 hit to the loss column at the hands of Pius X. Grand Island has not had much luck with Pius X recently, as the team's come up short the last three times they've met.
Despite the loss, Grand Island still got an impressive performance from Mukadi Mukoma, who scored 21 points along with two steals. Mukoma has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times he's played. Jaxon Bernal was another key contributor, scoring seven points.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Pius X to victory, but perhaps none more so than Kellan Humm, who scored 16 points. Another player making a difference was Treyson Anderson, who scored 11 points along with eight rebounds and two steals.
Grand Island bumped their record down to 4-8 with that loss, which was their third straight on the road. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.3 points per game. As for Pius X, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 9-4.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Grand Island will be staying on the road on Tuesday to face off against Bryan at 7:15 p.m. on January 23rd. Hopefully Bryan focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up seven on Saturday. As for Pius X, they will head out on the road to take on Skutt Catholic at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Skutt Catholic knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past three matchups -- so hopefully Pius X likes a good challenge.
