The Genoa-Hugo/Karval Pirates were the 44-42 winner over the Byers Bulldogs when they last played one another back in January of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Genoa-Hugo/Karval had to suffer through a rough 86-42 loss at the hands of Byers. Genoa-Hugo/Karval was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 55-19.
Eddy Franey and Trey Smith certainly did their best on Friday to try and avoid the loss. Franey scored nine points along with six rebounds, while Smith scored 13 points along with six rebounds. Franey continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played.
Genoa-Hugo/Karval's defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 4-4. As for Byers, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 5-3 record this season.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Genoa-Hugo/Karval will take on Merino at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. Merino presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Genoa-Hugo/Karval in Colorado (Merino is ranked 15th, while Genoa-Hugo/Karval is ranked 188th). As for Byers, they will be playing at home against Dolores Huerta Prep at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. Hopefully Dolores Huerta Prep focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 17 last Wednesday.
