Thomasville has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will take on the Straughn Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Thomasville had already proven themselves in the regular season, and didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They simply couldn't be stopped on Friday as they easily beat Dadeville 28-0 at home. Given Thomasville's advantage in MaxPreps' Alabama football rankings (they are ranked 87th, while Dadeville is ranked 218th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Meanwhile, Straughn waltzed into Friday's matchup with five straight wins but they left with six. They claimed a resounding 45-14 win over Southside at home. Straughn pushed the score to 38-14 by the end of the third, a deficit Southside had little chance of recovering from.
Layne Grantham had an outrageously good game as he rushed for 270 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 12.9 yards per carry, and also threw for 12 yards and a touchdown. Grant Barnes was another key contributor, rushing for 74 yards and a touchdown.
Thomasville has yet to lose a game at home this season, leaving them with a 9-1 record. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 35.0 points per game. As for Straughn, their victory bumped their record up to 11-1.
Thomasville was able to grind out a solid win over Straughn in their previous meeting back in November of 2022, winning 20-9. The rematch might be a little tougher for Thomasville since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
