The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: South Mecklenburg has struggled recently with three losses in a row, while Metrolina Christian Academy will arrive with eight straight victories.
South Mecklenburg is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of North Carolina's top teams: East Mecklenburg, who was ranked tenth at the time (South Mecklenburg was ranked 23rd). South Mecklenburg fell 3-1 to East Mecklenburg on Thursday. While the Sabres didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Eagles 25-19 in the first set.
South Mecklenburg started the match hot and won the first set, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. The final score came out to 19-25, 25-21, 25-18, 25-16.

South Mecklenburg might have lost, but man, Phoenix Modie was a machine: he had 11 kills, seven blocks, and five aces. Modie is on a roll when it comes to kills, as he's now had six or more in each of the last ten games he's played dating back to last season. Another player making a difference was Jackson Fancher, who had five digs, two aces, and one block.
Meanwhile, Metrolina Christian Academy made easy work of Kingdom Leadership Academy last Thursday and carried off a 3-0 win.
Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-17, 25-10, 25-15.
South Mecklenburg's defeat dropped their record down to 4-4. As for Metrolina Christian Academy, they pushed their record up to 3-0 with the victory, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season.
