The Newberry Panthers posted their biggest victory since December 6, 2023 on Thursday. They breezed by Fort White on the road to the tune of 67-25. Given Newberry's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 134th, while Fort White is ranked 404th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Leading Newberry to victory were Sarah Beaulieu and Brandy Whitfield. Beaulieu scored 21 points along with six steals and five assists, while Whitfield scored 26 points along with seven assists and five steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Whitfield has scored all season. Jada Brown was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with two steals.
Despite the loss, Fort White still got an impressive performance from Isreal Hart, who scored 20 points.
Newberry has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matches, which provided a nice bump to their 9-3 record this season. As for Fort White, they bumped their record down to 4-7 with that loss, which was their third straight at home.
Newberry will head out on the road to challenge Oak Hall at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Oak Hall is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune. As for Fort White, they the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome Riverside Christian at 6:30 p.m. on January 12th. Riverside Christian comes in still looking for their first win of the season.
