Each year since 2006, MaxPreps has recognized outstanding performers in high school basketball. The tradition continues to close out the 2024-25 season by naming the top player in each state. Selections are based on team success and individual excellence in addition to local and state accolades.
Trevin Jirak of
Valley (West Des Moines) is the 2024-25 Iowa MaxPreps Player of the Year. The 6-foot-10 senior center led the Tigers to a 23-3 record and their third consecutive state championship.
For the season, Jirak averaged 16.2 points, 9.4 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2.1 blocked shots per contest. He shot 59.2 percent from the field, 38.6 percent from 3-point range and 71.2 percent from the free throw line.
During Valley's run of three straight state championships, Jirak
started 66 games while putting up 12.4 points, 8.1
rebounds and 1.9 blocked shots per contest. The Tigers went 65-13 during that span.
Jirak signed with Northern Iowa over offers from Bryant, North Dakota State, South Dakota and Tarleton State.
Each state's MaxPreps Player of the Year will be considered for inclusion in the MaxPreps All-America Team, which is scheduled to be released April 8. Past selections include 2023-24 All-NBA picks Devin Booker (2014), Jalen Brunson (2014, 2015), Anthony Davis (2011), Kevin Durant (2006), Anthony Edwards (2019) and Jayson Tatum (2014, 2015, 2016).
