Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but unfortunately for The Vista Ridge Wolves, they weren't the ones who walked away with it. They were just a hair shy of victory on Friday and fell 27-26 to Denver South. Vista Ridge's loss continues a unfortunate trend for the squad, making it three in a row.
When it comes to explaining why Vista Ridge lost, one person who can't be blamed is Zayden Stevens. Despite the final result, he threw for 312 yards and three touchdowns on only 19 passes. Nayshaun Hall was another key contributor, gaining 127 total yards and a touchdown.
Denver South's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Orlando Guevara led the charge by rushing for 134 yards and two touchdowns on only 12 carries. The team also got some help courtesy of Chevelle Early, who rushed for 182 yards and a touchdown while picking up 7.6 yards per carry.
Vista Ridge's loss dropped their record down to 6-5. As for Denver South, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 7-4 record this season.
Vista Ridge does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Denver South will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against Palmer Ridge at 7:00 p.m. on November 10th. Palmer Ridge knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past nine games -- so hopefully Denver South likes a good challenge.
