The Phillips Bears's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Monday after their fifth straight loss. They were beaten by Vina 80-51. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Phillips in their matchups with Vina: they've now lost seven in a row.
Vina's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Khylee Brooks led the charge by dropping a double-double on 23 points and 19 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Lana Bell, who scored 26 points along with 5 rebounds.
Phillips' defeat was their fourth straight at home, which bumped their record down to 1-7. As for Vina, their victory bumped their record up to 6-4.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Phillips will take on Belgreen at 6:00 p.m. on December 12th. Belgreen presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Phillips in Alabama (Belgreen is ranked 72nd, while Phillips is ranked 383rd). Vina's road trip will continue as they head out to face Fayette County at 4:00 p.m. on December 8th.
