The Centennial Rams managed to keep up with the Sargent Farmers until halftime on Friday, but things quickly went downhill from there. Centennial was the victim of a tough 50-27 defeat at the hands of Sargent. While losing is never fun, Centennial can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 243rd, while Sargent is ranked 79th).
Centennial's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Devon Vigil, who scored ten points along with two steals and two blocks. That's the first time this season that Vigil posted two or more blocks. Martin Navarro was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with eight rebounds and two steals.
It was another big night for Hayden Lester, who scored 22 points along with nine rebounds for Sargent. That's the first time this season that Lester scored 15 or more points. Another player making a difference was Lucas Garcia, who scored five points along with six steals.
Centennial's defeat dropped their record down to 2-2. As for Sargent, their victory bumped their record up to 5-1.
Centennial's road trip will continue as they head out to face South Baca [Campo/Vilas/Pritchett] at 2:00 p.m. on January 6th. As for Sargent, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Dolores at 6:00 p.m. Hopefully Dolores focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 12 back in December of 2023.
