The Independence Eagles will take on the Page Patriots at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Independence is coming into the game hot, having won their last three games.
While Independence's win against Centennial wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Eagles had just enough and edged out the Cougars 5-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Eagles have posted against the Cougars since March 24, 2022.
Piper Johnson was excellent, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was Taylor Schmidt, who went 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Independence hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They are 8-1 when they post two or more strikeouts.
Meanwhile, Page beat Franklin 6-2 on Monday. The win continues a trend for the Patriots in their matchups with the Admirals: they've now won six in a row.
Ashley Johnson was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over four innings pitched. Johnson was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March of 2024.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Adriana Callahan, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. She has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last five times she's played. Anna Johnson was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Independence's victory was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 17-14. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Page, their victory bumped their record up to 13-3.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Tuesday. Independence hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.7 home runs per game. However, it's not like Page struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.9 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Independence came up short against Page in their previous meeting on April 1st, falling 7-3. Will the Eagles have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more softball content.
