Baseball Game Preview: Wayne Pioneers vs. Buffalo Bison

Wayne and Buffalo are an even 4-4 against one another since April of 2016, but likely not for long. Wayne will challenge Buffalo at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.

Wayne fell victim to Winfield and their airtight pitching crew on Monday. They lost 6-0 to the Generals. The Pioneers have struggled against the Generals recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive lost meeting.

Riley Brown was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April of 2024.

Meanwhile, Buffalo hadn't done well against Nitro recently (they were 0-4 in their previous four matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Saturday. Buffalo came out on top against Nitro by a score of 6-3. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Bison.

Anthony Pitchford was a major factor no matter where he played. He pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Buffalo is 2-1 when he allows at most two walks, but 0-4 otherwise. Pitchford was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-2. That run was his first of the season.

Pitchford wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Evan Panaro, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-4. Britton Hudson also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

Wayne's loss dropped their record down to 1-6. As for Buffalo, their win bumped their record up to 2-5.
