Basketball Recap: Jackson Day Skates Past Corvian Community with Ease

Jackson Day won the last time they faced Corvian Community and things went their way on Thursday too. The Jackson Day Mariners breezed by the Corvian Community Cardinals to the tune of 64-9. The Mariners have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won eight matchups by 35 points or more this season.

Jackson Day's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Gia Wilson, who posted 14 points and seven steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Courtney Ashford, who went 7 of 11 on her way to 19 points.

Jackson Day has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 8-4 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.2 points per game. As for Corvian Community, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 6-4.

Jackson Day won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Nansemond River at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Nansemond River knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past four matchups -- so hopefully Jackson Day likes a good challenge. As for Corvian Community, they will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Community School of Davidson at 6:00 p.m. on January 7, 2025. Community School of Davidson is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 52 points per game this season.
