The St. Agnes Academy Stars's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their fourth straight loss. They fell 56-45 to Houston. While losing is never fun, St. Agnes Academy can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee basketball rankings (they are ranked 205th, while Houston is ranked 63rd).
Houston was led to victory by Amani Lipscomb and Anna lee Avery. Lipscomb scored 16 points along with four steals, while Avery scored 29 points along with six rebounds and three blocks. Those three blocks set a new season-high mark for her. Laila Mcnamee was another key contributor, scoring three points along with four steals.
St. Agnes Academy's loss dropped their record down to 6-5. As for Houston, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten games, which provided a nice bump to their 12-4 record this season.
St. Agnes Academy is on the road again on Wednesday and play against St. George's at 6:00 p.m. on January 3rd. Houston and Bartlett will face off at 6:00 p.m. on January 2nd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. That game will pit two of the most dominant players against one another: Carrington Jones and Avery.
