The Our Lady of Lourdes Warriors''s recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their third straight loss. They had to suffer through a rough 50-22 loss at the hands of Cornwall Central. While losing is never fun, Our Lady of Lourdes can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New York football rankings (they are ranked 219th, while Cornwall Central is ranked 51st).
Tyler Vanderpool was his usual excellent self, rushing for 321 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 17.8 yards per carry. Vanderpool really tore up the turf during one magnificent 89-yard run. Dylan Verswyveld was another key contributor, picking up 81 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Our Lady of Lourdes' loss was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their overall record down to 4-5. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 7-1 Newburgh Free Academy and 7-2 Washingtonville (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 81.9% over those games). As for Cornwall Central, the victory for they keeps them at an undefeated 9-0.
Our Lady of Lourdes will head out on the road to face off against Minisink Valley at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Minisink Valley will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak. As for Cornwall Central, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Warwick at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
