The West Brook Bruins put another one in the bag on Tuesday to keep their perfect season alive. They were the clear victor by a 79-59 margin over Silsbee. Given West Brook's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 28th, while Silsbee is ranked 653rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Ashton Simmons was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 26 points and 16 rebounds. That makes it two consecutive games in which he has scored at least 25% of West Brook's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaylin Jones, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 14 rebounds.
Silsbee's loss came despite strong showings from Jared Harris and Troy Rice. Harris scored 16 points along with 9 rebounds and 3 steals, while Rice scored 14 points along with 5 rebounds and 3 steals. Harris scored a full 27.1% of Silsbee's points, the fifth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Payton Jones, who scored 9 points.
Even though they lost, Silsbee were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as West Brook only pulled down 20.
West Brook's win bumped their record up to 5-0. As for Silsbee, they now have a losing record at 2-3.
West Brook will be playing in front of their home fans against Angleton at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday. Angleton knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past seven games -- so hopefully West Brook likes a good challenge. As for Silsbee, they will square off against Nimitz at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday.
