The Chilhowie Warriors will face off against the Holston Cavaliers at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Chilhowie barely beat Rural Retreat the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Warriors were the clear victors by a 12-2 margin over the Indians on Thursday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Warriors considering their one-run performance the game before.
Payton Hester was incredible, going 1-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. That triple was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Denessa Martin, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Holston, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Northwood an 8-0 shutout on Thursday. The win continues a trend for the Cavaliers in their matchups with the Panthers: they've now won eight in a row.
Rily Cobler was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 13 over seven innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one run.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Katie Remine, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high. MJ Musser was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.
Chilhowie pushed their record up to 15-2 with the victory, which was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.3 runs over those games. As for Holston, their victory bumped their record up to 9-5.
Chilhowie came out on top in a nail-biter against Holston when the teams last played back in April, sneaking past 12-10. Will the Warriors repeat their success, or do the Cavaliers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
