Aubrey Rogers was handed a heart-breaking two-run defeat in their last matchup, but they sure didn't let that happen against Naples on Tuesday. The Patriots blew past the Golden Eagles 13-5. The Patriots haven't had any issues with the Golden Eagles recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.
Delaney McCroskery made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She tossed seven innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off seven hits. What's more, she posted five strikeouts, the most she's had since back in February. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 3-for-5.
In other batting news, Aubrey Rogers let Jayline Martinez and Sophia Truchan run wild. Martinez got on base in five of her six plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and one RBI, while Truchan got on base in three of her six plate appearances with three runs, one triple, and two RBI. That's the most runs Truchan has posted since back in March. Madison Brown also deserves some recognition as she got her first hit of the season.
Aubrey Rogers hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Naples struck out six times.
Meanwhile, Lely waltzed into their game on Tuesday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with an 11-9 victory over the Gators.
Star Orosco and Jeeznie Marcelin did most of the damage at the plate: Orosco scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances, while Marcelin scored a run and stole two bases while going 2-for-4. Orosco continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Kai Oliveira was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.
Aubrey Rogers' record now sits at 9-13. As for Lely, their record is now 6-13.
Lely's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Aubrey Rogers hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .324. It's a different story for Lely, though, as they've only averaged .236. Will they be able to contain Aubrey Rogers' hitters?
Everything went Aubrey Rogers' way against Lely in their previous matchup back in March, as Aubrey Rogers made off with a 14-4 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Patriots since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
