Basketball Recap: Maranatha Christian Victorious

Maranatha Christian's game on Friday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Saturday. They escaped with a win against the Pacifica Christian/Santa Monica Seawolves by the margin of a single free throw, 52-51.

Maranatha Christian's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Adrian Ownbey led the charge by putting up 15 points and five boards. The contest was Ownbey's third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Dash Ekeroth, who posted 14 points.

Despite the loss, Pacifica Christian/Santa Monica had strong showings from Darren Awili, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 15 rebounds, and Jessiah Casey, who had 17 points. Awili has been hot for a while, having posted nine or more boards the last 13 times he's played. Terrence Thomas was another key player, scoring seven points.

Maranatha Christian's win bumped their record up to 12-9. As for Pacifica Christian/Santa Monica, they dropped their record down to 9-11 with the defeat, which was their third straight on the road.
