The Northwest Area Rangers will head out on the road to face off against the Troy Trojans at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Northwest Area is hoping to put an end to a seven-game streak of away losses dating back to last season.
Northwest Area never got on the board in their last matchup, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Sayre last Friday. Northwest Area enjoyed a cozy 44-28 victory over Sayre.
Northwest Area's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Dominic Cavuto led the charge by rushing for 83 yards and three touchdowns. The team also got some help courtesy of Jace Mccoy, who threw for 221 yards and three touchdowns.
Northwest Area's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB four times. The heavy lifting was done by Cole Hudack and Nick Stevens who racked up four sacks between them.
Meanwhile, Troy put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their undefeated season alive. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Towanda 37-0 on the road. The matchup was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point Troy had established a 28 point advantage.
Brendan Gilliland had a dynamite game for Troy, rushing for 127 yards and three touchdowns on only eight carries. Camryn Harwick also deserves a mention for his punt return touchdown.
Their wins bumped Northwest Area to 2-5 and Troy to 7-0.
Northwest Area might still be hurting after the 35-13 loss they got from Troy in their previous meeting back in October of 2022. Can Northwest Area avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
