Gulf Coast is 10-0 against Palmetto Ridge since December of 2016, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Monday. Gulf Coast stacked a tenth blowout win onto their ever-increasing hoard on Tuesday. They blew past Fort Myers 59-27 at home. Given Gulf Coast's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 100th, while Fort Myers is ranked 500th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Gulf Coast's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Mackenzie Mcmaster led the charge by dropping a double-double on 14 points and 11 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Mcmaster has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Alex Mcdonough, who scored eight points along with seven assists and six steals.
Meanwhile, Palmetto Ridge's three-game losing streak came to an end on Saturday. Everything went their way against Key West as Palmetto Ridge made off with a 64-41 win. The victory was just what Palmetto Ridge needed coming off of a 61-28 defeat in their prior match.
Gulf Coast pushed their record up to 14-4 with that victory, which was their fifth straight at home. As for Palmetto Ridge, the win got them back to even at 7-7.
Everything came up roses for Gulf Coast against Palmetto Ridge in their previous matchup back in November of 2023 as the squad secured a 62-28 victory. Does Gulf Coast have another victory up their sleeve, or will Palmetto Ridge turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
