A feisty cat fight will be fought as the Lions challenge the Jaguars at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Chaminade-Madonna's pitching crew has only allowed four runs per game this season, so Pembroke Pines Charter's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Chaminade-Madonna is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. Everything went their way against McArthur on Thursday as Chaminade-Madonna made off with a 12-2 win. Considering the Lions have won three matches by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Santi Arismendi looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits every time he's pitched this season.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Jon Gourrier, who went a perfect2-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April of 2024. Joshua Wright also deserves some recognition as he hit his first hit of the season.
Chaminade-Madonna always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .517. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Pembroke Pines Charter was able to grind out a solid victory over Flanagan on Thursday, taking the game 7-2. The Jaguars haven't had any issues with the Falcons recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.
Justin Probst made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Probst was also big at the plate, scoring a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
In other pitching news, Sebastian Gonzalez looked comfortable as he pitched four innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits.
Back at the plate, Gianfranco Mejia was excellent, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 1-for-2. Brady Mongera was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-4.
Chaminade-Madonna pushed their record up to 4-1 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs over those games. As for Pembroke Pines Charter, the win got them back to even at 1-1.
Chaminade-Madonna came out on top in a nail-biter against Pembroke Pines Charter in their previous matchup back in February of 2018, sneaking past 2-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for Chaminade-Madonna since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
