Hilliard Darby hasn't had much luck against Hilliard Bradley recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Panthers will face off against the Jaguars at 7:30 p.m. Hilliard Darby is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9 runs per game this season.
On Wednesday, Hilliard Darby needed a bit of extra time to put away Hilliard Davidson. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Wildcats, sneaking past 4-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Panthers have posted since April 14th.
Marley Grigsby spent all nine innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on eight hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Lorelai Gum, who went 2-for-4 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run. Another player making a difference was Kaydence Speelman, who went 1-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Hilliard Bradley made easy work of Dublin Coffman on Monday and carried off a 9-3 win. Considering the Jaguars have won eight games by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Hilliard Bradley has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for Hilliard Darby, the win snapped their losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 14-6 record.
Both Hilliard Darby and Hilliard Bradley just can't seem to miss. The Panthers have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10 hits per game. However, it's not like Hilliard Bradley struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 5.6 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Hilliard Darby suffered a grim 7-1 defeat to Hilliard Bradley in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Can the Panthers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
