Gospel Light Christian will head out on the road to take on the Union Grove Christian Patriots at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Gospel Light Christian will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings (they are ranked 325th, while Union Grove Christian is ranked 162nd).
Gospel Light Christian has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They took a 58-48 hit to the loss column at the hands of Triad Baptist Christian Academy on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, Union Grove Christian waltzed into their contest on Monday with 16 straight wins but they left with 17. They managed a 62-57 win over Vandalia Christian. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Colin Wykes continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 29 points. He is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last 19 games he's played. Another player making a difference was Ben Johnson, who scored 11 points along with nine rebounds and two steals.
Gospel Light Christian's loss dropped their record down to 12-6. As for Union Grove Christian, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 18 of their last 19 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 23-3 record this season.
Gospel Light Christian suffered a grim 51-30 defeat to Union Grove Christian in their previous meeting back in January of 2023. Can Gospel Light Christian avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
