Softball Game Preview: Hector Wildcats vs. Acorn Tigers

The Hector Wildcats will square off against the Acorn Tigers at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Hector is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.7 runs per game this season.

Last Tuesday, Hector made easy work of Westside and carried off a 13-1 win. The victory continues a trend for the Wildcats in their matchups with the Rebels: they've now won three in a row.

Sarena Myers made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Myers was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one triple.

In other batting news, Hector let Reece Vincent and Mylah Myers run wild. Vincent scored a run and stole three bases while going 2-for-3, while Myers scored three runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-2. The dominant performance also gave Vincent a new career-high in RBI (three). Another player making a difference was Addison Campbell, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, one double, and one RBI.

Hector always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .645. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Westside only posted an OBP of .158.

Meanwhile, Thursday just wasn't the day for Acorn's offense. They lost 11-0 to Mansfield on Thursday. While getting shut out isn't ideal, Acorn hasn't been shut out since back in March.

Hector pushed their record up to 11-2 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Acorn, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-3.

Everything went Hector's way against Acorn in their previous meeting back in March, as Hector made off with a 13-2 win. Do the Wildcats have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Tigers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
