Notre Dame-Green Pond and Saucon Valley are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2019, but likely not for long. The Crusaders will host the Panthers at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Notre Dame-Green Pond is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.6 runs per game this season.
Notre Dame-Green Pond barely beat Catasauqua the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Crusaders blew past the Rough Riders 15-2 on Wednesday. The Crusaders haven't had any issues with the Rough Riders recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive win against them.
Colin Pevorus was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-2. That stolen base was his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Michael Martino, who scored a run while going 2-for-2.
Notre Dame-Green Pond hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least five strikeouts batters in five consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Saucon Valley is still undefeated this season after their contest against Palmerton on Wednesday, but Palmerton came as close as anyone has to beating them. The Panthers came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 6-5 W against the Blue Bombers. Those six runs were actually the fewest the Panthers have put up all season, but given the result they're probably not too concerned.
Cole Hubert and Nic Albanese did most of the damage at the plate: Hubert scored two runs while going 2-for-3, while Albanese went 2-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. Those two hits gave Albanese a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Madden Heiserman, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.
Saucon Valley's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-0. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.3 runs over those games. As for Notre Dame-Green Pond, they now have a winning record of 4-3.
Friday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Notre Dame-Green Pond has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .435. However, it's not like Saucon Valley struggles in that department as they've averaged .542. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Notre Dame-Green Pond couldn't quite get it done against Saucon Valley in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 as they fell 5-2. Can the Crusaders avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
