Lamar County has been on the road for three straight, but on Friday they'll finally head home. They will take on The Heard County Braves at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the pair will really light up the scoreboard.
Lamar County can now show off five landslide victories after their most recent game on Friday. They claimed a resounding 43-0 victory over Crawford County on the road. Given Lamar County's advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia football rankings (they are ranked 148th, while Crawford County is ranked 439th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Lamar County's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Zyquavius Hughley led the charge by rushing for 123 yards and a touchdown on only 15 carries. Hughley was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 51 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Caleb Laster, who rushed for 76 yards and a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Heard County had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 31.5 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They strolled past Temple with points to spare, taking the game 43-29.
Heard County found their leader in underclassman Ethan Tisdale, who rushed for 149 yards and three touchdowns on only 15 carries, and also threw for 79 yards and two touchdowns. Tisdale is on a roll when it comes to rushing touchdowns, as he's now punched in two or more in the last three games he's played. Antonio Heath was another key contributor, rushing for 107 yards and two touchdowns.
Lamar County's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which bumped their overall record up to 7-2. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 0-9 Pike County and 1-8 Crawford County (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 32.6% over those games). As for Heard County, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 4-5 record this season.
Everything came up roses for Lamar County against Heard County in their previous matchup back in November of 2022 as the squad secured a 42-0 victory. Does Lamar County have another victory up their sleeve, or will Heard County turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
