The Mishawaka Cavemen will square off against the Concord Minutemen at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Mishawaka will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak.
Mishawaka is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They never let South Bend Riley get on the board and left with an 18-0 victory on Saturday. Considering the Cavemen have won four matches by more than nine runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
Mishawaka got a great performance from Gunnar Eby as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out seven over five innings pitched.
On the hitting side, Maddux Kuhnle was a standout: he went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Shawn Nowacki, who went 1-for-2 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run.
Mishawaka was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .379. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as South Bend Riley only posted a batting average of .125.
Meanwhile, Concord came up short against Fairfield on Saturday and fell 7-3.
Noah Norwood was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Mark Herman, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run.
Mishawaka's win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 7-3. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. As for Concord, their loss dropped their record down to 4-4.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Mishawaka has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.1 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Concord struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 3.6 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Mishawaka couldn't quite finish off Concord in their previous meeting back in June of 2024 and fell 11-9. Will the Cavemen have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other baseball content.
