On Wednesday, the Leominster Blue Devils faced the Millbury Woolies in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Leominster put the hurt on Millbury with a sharp 68-43 win. The win was a breath of fresh air for Leominster as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.
Despite the defeat, Millbury had strong showings from Kenny Donnelly, who scored 18 points, and Mathias Waire, who scored 15 points. That's the first time this season that Waire scored 15 or more points.
Leominster's victory bumped their record up to 8-3. As for Millbury, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-3 record this season.
Leominster will stay at home for another game and welcome Wachusett Regional at 7:00 p.m. on January 19th. Wachusett Regional will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Massachusetts Rankings (they are ranked 185th, while Leominster is ranked 16th). As for Millbury, they will head out on the road to take on Leicester at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Leicester is coming into the game on a six-game losing streak.
