Upland (Calif.) saw its 14-point lead shrink to six, but hung on to beat
South Hills (West Covina, Calif.) 21-15 on Saturday.
After taking the lead on a touchdown pass by
Tyler Hilinski to
Malik Yoakum in the first quarter, the Highlanders/Scots led 13-7 at the half.
Upland expanded its lead to 14 points entering the fourth quarter. UHS scored two times in the third, including once on a touchdown pass by Hilinski to
Nathan Tilford.
With the win the Highlanders/Scots extended their winning streak to five games. Upland defeated Rancho Cucamonga 24-6 last week.
Led by Tilford, Coming into the game Upland had allowed 24.3 points per game this year. The defense really stepped up, holding the Huskies well below their season average of 26.2 points scored per game.
The defeat comes as a step back for South Hills, which notched a 42-21 victory over Ayala in its previous outing. The loss snapped South Hills' two-game winning streak.
