Basketball Recap: Elmwood-Murdock Piles Up the Points Against Conestoga

You're bound to get a positive result if you outscore your opponent every quarter, and that's exactly how it played out for Elmwood-Murdock on Friday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that they blew the Conestoga Cougars out of the water with a 58-31 final score. The Knights have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six matchups by 20 points or more this season.

Elmwood-Murdock's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Annie Backemeyer, who posted ten points along with five assists and five boards. What's more, Backemeyer also racked up five steals, the most she's had since back in January of 2024. Another player making a difference was Brooke Goudie, who almost dropped a double-double on 11 points and nine rebounds.

Backemeyer wasn't the only one working in the assists department: Elmwood-Murdock was working as a unit and finished the game with 18 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Conestoga only posted three assists.

Conestoga's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Ayla Garrett, who earned 12 points in addition to six boards and six steals, and Grace Rodis, who went 6 of 13 en route to 13 points along with eight rebounds and three steals. Garrett has been hot for a while, having posted two or more steals the last 13 times she's played.

Elmwood-Murdock's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-4. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 25.5 points. As for Conestoga, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-11.

Elmwood-Murdock will take on Tri County at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Tri County's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last three games. Conestoga has already played their next contest, a 60-30 win against Cornerstone Christian School on the 18th.
