Softball: Gilford Hands Forge 400th Win
Joan Forge collected the 400th victory of her high school coaching career when Gilford defeated rival Belmont, 6-5, on April 30.
Forge became the fourth New Hampshire high school softball coach to win at least 400 games, joining former Somersworth coach Rick Forge (Joan’s husband), Littleton’s Jim Ramsey and Salem’s Harold Sachs.
Rick Forge, who is now an assistant coach at Gilford, became the first coach to reach the milestone when he collected victory No. 400 in 2001.
“It means that I’m getting old and I’ve been at it a long time,” Joan Forge told Foster’s Daily Democrat. “The girls do it all, and I’m just happy to be a part of it.”
Forge guided Gilford to the Class M state title in 2003 and 2006. Her only other championship came in 1983, when she was the head coach at Ashland High School.
