It was a proper cat-fight when Paulding duked it out with Jefferson on Friday. The Panthers put the hurt on the Wildcats with a sharp 14-7 win. The victory continues a trend for the Panthers in their matchups with the Wildcats: they've now won four in a row.
Tia Mendez made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over seven innings while giving up five earned (and two unearned) runs off ten hits. Those hits were her first of the season. She was even better at the plate, going 3-for-5 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, Mariah Klopfenstein was incredible, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances. She also hit a double, marking her first of the season. Cadence Schwab was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-5.
Paulding always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .568. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Miller City, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Thursday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with an 8-7 win over Crestview on Friday.
The team relied heavily on Bailey David, who fired off two home runs and four RBI while going 3-for-4. Another player making a difference was Morgan Verhoff, who scored three runs while going 4-for-4.
Miller City's victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 4-4. As for Paulding, the win got them back to even at 2-2.
Miller City's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Paulding has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .434. It's a different story for Miller City, though, as they've only averaged .343. Will they be able to contain Paulding's hitters?
Paulding was able to grind out a solid victory over Miller City in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, winning 5-2. Do the Panthers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Wildcats turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
