It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but the Port Charlotte Pirates ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Lemon Bay 64-62. The victory was just what Port Charlotte needed coming off of a 62-41 defeat in their prior game.
Despite the loss, Lemon Bay still got an impressive performance from Cooper Benedict, who scored 24 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Benedict has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Mayson Roberts, who scored seven points along with five rebounds.
Port Charlotte pushed their record up to 12-9 with that win, which was their eighth straight at home. As for Lemon Bay, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-13.
Port Charlotte will head out on the road to take on Venice at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Venice will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings (they are ranked 372nd, while Port Charlotte is ranked 157th). As for Lemon Bay, Lemon Bay and LaBelle will face off at 7:00 p.m. on January 29th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Hopefully LaBelle focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up eight on Saturday.
