West Lafayette has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will take on the Tippecanoe Valley Vikings at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
West Lafayette scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Tuesday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Lafayette Jefferson 72-36 at home. Given West Lafayette's advantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 82nd, while Lafayette Jefferson is ranked 310th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
West Lafayette's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Adrianne Tolen, who scored 20 points along with five steals, and Sarah Werth, who scored 22 points along with three steals. Tolen hasn't dropped below two steals for five straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Molly Andrew, who scored eight points along with six rebounds.
Tippecanoe Valley posted their biggest victory yet this season two weeks ago. Couldn't have asked for a better start to 2024 than the 61-15 blowout they got at home against Knox. With Tippecanoe Valley ahead 43-9 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.
Ava Egolf was her usual excellent self, scoring 21 points along with six rebounds and four steals. She is on a roll when it comes to points, as she's now scored 15 or more in the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Gaby Gonzalez, who scored nine points along with five steals.
West Lafayette's victory bumped their record up to 12-8. As for Tippecanoe Valley, they pushed their record up to 14-3 with that victory, which was their 16th straight at home dating back to last season.
Keep an eye on the arc in Friday's match: West Lafayette have made nailing deep shots look easy this year this season, having only averaged 4.4 threes per game. It's a different story for Tippecanoe Valley, though, as they've been averaging only 2.4 threes per game. Given West Lafayette's sizeable advantage in that area, Tippecanoe Valley will need to find a way to close that gap.
