Basketball Recap: Sterling's Losing Streak Snapped at Four Games

Sterling hadn't done well against Lourdes Central Catholic recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Sterling Jets snuck past the Lourdes Central Catholic Knights with a 52-48 win. This was payback for the Jets, who suffered a 55-29 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Sterling's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Brody Horstman, who posted 19 points and five boards. That's the most points Horstman has posted since back in January of 2024. Colin Wambold was another key player, dropping a double-double on 13 points and 12 rebounds.

Several Knights players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Vance Poppleton, who almost dropped a double-double on 19 points and nine boards. Poppleton has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last four times he's played. Another player making a difference was Brady Schnitzer, who went 6 of 13 en route to 16 points along with five boards and five steals.

Sterling moved to 3-11 with that win, which also ended their four-game losing streak. As for Lourdes Central Catholic, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-12 record this season.

Sterling will host Weeping Water at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Considering Sterling has lost five straight at home and Weeping Water five straight on the road , this one might come down to who's more desperate to change their momentum. As for Lourdes Central Catholic, they will head out to take on Axtell at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Axtell will roll in looking for their tenth straight victory, something Lourdes Central Catholic surely won't give up without a fight.
