The Wendell Trojans will challenge the Firth Cougars at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Wendell comes in on three and Firth on four.
Wendell is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They came out on top against Gooding by a score of 12-9 on Tuesday. Surprisingly, this marked the fourth straight game that the away team has come away the victor.

Gunner Jones

03/21/25 vs Buhl | 1 |
Gunner Jones was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Wendell is 2-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 1-3 otherwise. Jones was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.
In other batting news, Julian Ponce and Chip Houser did most of the damage at the plate: Ponce went 2-for-4 with one home run and three runs, while Houser scored a run and stole a base while going 4-for-5. Wendell is 2-1 when Ponce posts two or more runs, but 1-3 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Zayden Rogers, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with one RBI.
Wendell always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .523. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Firth got the win against North Fremont on Tuesday by a conclusive 13-1.
Like Wendell, Firth also got a great game from a two-way player: Darrell Vasquez. He looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits over four innings pitched. Vasquez was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 3-for-3. He has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last five times he's played.
In other batting news, Firth let Grant Vasquez and Cooper Park run wild. Vasquez scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-2, while Park scored a run while going 1-for-2. Vasquez is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Brycen Andersen, who scored two runs and stole a base.
Firth pushed their record up to 4-3 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.2 runs over those games. As for Wendell, their victory bumped their record up to 3-4.
Wendell might still be hurting after the 12-2 loss they got from Firth when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Will the Trojans have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more baseball content.
