The Clinton Gaels will head out on the road to face off against the Tyngsborough Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Massachusetts (Clinton is ranked 92nd, while Tyngsborough is ranked 111th).
Last Friday, Clinton blew past Lunenburg, posting a 60-28 win at home. The game was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 38-14.
Clinton's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Gel a Lopez, who rushed for 125 yards and two touchdowns on only five carries. Taetum Cassella also helped out as he racked up 102 rushing yards.
Clinton's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB four times. Leading the way was Connor Cox and his two sacks.
Meanwhile, after soaring to 44 points the game before, Tyngsborough were a bit more limited in their contest on Friday. They were beaten by West Boylston/Tahanto 42-7. Tyngsborough was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 28-0.
With Clinton's win and Tyngsborough's defeat, both teams now sport identical 4-2 records.
Friday's matchup might be decided on the ground as these two are both standouts in the run game. Clinton has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 261.5 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Tyngsborough struggles in that department as they've been averaging 199 per game. It's looking like Friday's game might have some serious battles in the trenches.
Everything came up roses for Clinton against Tyngsborough when the teams last played back in October of 2022 as the squad secured a 47-14 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Clinton since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
