Liberty extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 18 on Tuesday, dropping them down to 0-3. They took a 15-12 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Patrick County Cougars. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Cougars this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 12-1 last Thursday.
Bella Pierro put in work while hitting and pitching. She struck out nine batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and eight unearned) runs off eight hits. Pierro was also big at the plate, going 2-for-6 with three RBI, one triple, and one stolen base.
In other batting news, Josie Whorley was cooking despite her team's loss, going 4-for-7 with one home run, five runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Jayden Gross, who went 2-for-6 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
As for Patrick County, they pushed their record up to 3-0 with the win, which was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games.
Like Liberty, Patrick County also got a great game from a two-way player: Journey Moore. On the mound, she tossed three innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off four hits. Moore was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in four of her seven plate appearances with five stolen bases, five runs, and one triple. Those five stolen bases gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Lacey Sutphin was incredible, getting on base in four of her seven plate appearances with three RBI and two runs. Lauren Hazelwood was another key player, going 1-for-6 with three runs, one double, and one RBI.
Liberty wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next matchup, an 8-6 win against James River on the 26th. As for Patrick County, they have also already played their next game, a 9-0 loss against Floyd County on the 26th.
