El Capitan has enjoyed a three-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will square off against the San Pasqual Golden Eagles at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday. Hopefully El Capitan focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 12 on Thursday.
El Capitan has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six contests by 21 points or more this season. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Chula Vista 78-33 at home. Given El Capitan's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 493rd, while Chula Vista is ranked 1080th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
El Capitan's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Andy Novelo-Gerardo, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 12 rebounds. Novelo-Gerardo is absolutely dominating the block category: he's posted at least two every time he's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Kale Curo, who scored 17 points.
Meanwhile, San Pasqual's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their fourth straight loss. They had to suffer through a rough 81-33 loss at the hands of La Costa Canyon. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points San Pasqual has scored all season.
El Capitan pushed their record up to 9-1 with that victory, which was their fifth straight at home. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 65.8 points per game. As for San Pasqual, their loss dropped their record down to 1-6.
El Capitan lost to San Pasqual on the road by a decisive 65-51 margin in their previous meeting back in February. Can El Capitan avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
